Persuasive Writing: Students will choose a topic of their choice to convince/persuade others in the class to think like them or change their perspective on a topic. We have been learning about persuasive vocabulary, arguments, and proof to include in our writing to support our opinions, as well as, transition words to help with organization of text.

Narrative Writing: We read a short novel called "Flat Stanley" together as a class. We discussed characteristics of a narrative and had meaningful conversations throughout the novel. The students are creating their own adventure story and will become the main character "Flat Stanley". The students reviewed characters, settings, main events, problems, and solutions. The students are doing great work to finalize their stories and write their published copies.
Novel Study: We are currently reading a novel titled "Tuck Everlasting". The students will have the opportunity to work together as a whole class, small groups, and independently to discuss themes and have discussions about our novel. They will also participate in small writing activities throughout our reading to enrich their learning! There is a final assignment in which the students will create a timeline using the many settings of the story!

Habitats: We are wrapping up our habitat unit with our dioramas! Students have been working hard on these projects and are excited to present to the class next week! We will have a test Thursday May 3rd to finish the unit. We have reviewed and discussed materials and information that will be covered on the test together in class.
Social Studies: We will be starting our unit on Ancient Civilizations the week of May 14th. Students will complete a research project in groups of 4. This will be an inquiry project in which students will have the chance to explore and research topics such as life style, the arts, social structure and power, sciences and technology, and beliefs. They will create a poster and display the information they learned in a way suited to them to share with their classmates. The students are very much excited about beginning these projects!
